Winter Running Gear
Every seasoned runner will know that there's nothing like the push of the burn and the pure exhilaration felt after a great outdoor run. There's no reason that running needs to be a fair-weather sport — with the right gear, you can take your running obsession to any climate and be warm in the worst weather.
Sometimes, the coldest, wettest and windiest days are the times when getting those endorphins pumping around your body is the most beneficial. Here at Addnature, we've got a whole load of wonderful winter run ning gear to keep you warm and dry whilst you hit the track (or the road, or the mud!)
Essential winter running clothes
Every runner knows that it's very important to have dry feet. If your feet are dry, you stay warm and motivated to carry on going. Aside from this, clothing and underlayers are key. The most important kit you'll need for your winter running gear is:
- Long tights or leggings
- Windpants (optional)
- Running socks
Your gear obviously depends on the climate and the level of cold you'll be dealing with. The kind of winter running shoes you wear will be very dependent on the amount of grip you need. This has a lot to do with whether you're running on muddy tracks, rocks or pavements.
Just as important as your shoes are what goes underneath them — winter running socks are an essential part of your kit. A favourite that we have in stock are the SmartWool running socks. They are made of Merino wool and hold all the natural benefits of this, such as breathability and moisture-wicking. The fact that your feet don't smell after a long run is a fabulous benefit of Merino.
Winter running jackets and base layers
We stock a wide range of different jackets for your outdoor winter running comfort. There is a range of intelligent fabrics on the market that offer great protection against the elements whilst maintaining a healthy body. Some great options include:
- Coreshell jackets: UYN technicians have developed a material with an innovative structure that is highly effective at retaining heat.
- Hybrid jackets: jackets like the La Sportiva Zeal offer water and wind resistance whilst not overheating you.
- Goretex fleece jackets: for deep winter running activities.
Base layers and skins
It's great to have layers and different warmth options, especially if you're into long-distance running. At Addnature, we've got some amazing hi-tech base layers to keep you warm and dry. A base layer has the following benefits:
- Added protection against the cold
- Moisture-repellent yet breathable structures
- Sweat controlling and cooling
Many under layers employ anti-odour technology, which can ensure you stay fresh and that you don't have to wash your running clothes after every run.
Skins are also beneficial as they are designed to maximise your movement during low-intensity sports. The subtle compression on your arms reduces the risk of over-extension and increases awareness of limb placement. Running underwear like skins are a great idea if you run regularly and will help you to perform to your top potential.
Accessories to take on your winter run
So you're all kitted up with your shoes and clothes but there are a few more accessories that will help keep you running longer and in the utmost comfort. Some good winter running gloves will help keep your hands warm whilst the rest of you is toasty. Inov8 gloves are a customer favourite due to their lightweight and waterproof qualities.
At Addnature we've got something for everyone, and you can ensure that you'll be running in the ultimate comfort with our wonderful winter running gear. Have a good browse and enjoy your run!
