Whether you’re camping or trekking, at a festival or on a multi-day cycling tour, a hot meal or steaming coffee are always welcome – and a gas stove makes these possible. Gas stoves are available in a wide range of sizes, for a variety of conditions. They’re durable, very easy to set up and use, require little maintenance and heat liquids quickly. In addition, gas burns soot-free, which makes it possible to use them inside a tent, for example.

Look out for gas stoves that are lightweight or ultra-light, especially if you will be hiking and carrying your gear in a backpack. Likewise, collapsible potholders and camping gas stoves will be small to pack and won’t take up much space in your backpack. There are other helpful features to look out for when shopping for camping gas stoves. Some portable stoves come with a windscreen protector that lets the flame burn easily and solidly, while some stoves feature auto-ignition, which can be very handy. What to cook on a camping stove

Gas stoves and portable gas stoves are excellent to cook with as they let you adjust the temperature quite finely, and can be used to cook a wide range of foods including meats and vegetarian foods such as beans, rice and vegetables. Depending on your utensils, you can whip up a pretty epic breakfast on a camping gas stove, complete with eggs, beans, and bacon, as well as a tasty lunch or dinner. Camping gas stoves and portable gas stoves can also be used to boil water to make tea and coffee. Most standard portable gas stoves can boil 1 L of water in 3.5 minutes, while more advanced camping stoves have a rapid boil function and take just 1 minute.

Note that for safety, a portable gas stove or any camping gas stoves should never be used indoors. If you are staying in a camper van without kitchen facilities, you will need to use your camping gas stove outdoors. Most camping gas stoves have a single burner. Portable stoves that have a large burner head will offer enhanced heat distribution and more efficient cooking. Some stoves do not come with a gas canister included so this may need to be purchased separately.
