SALEWA Ergo Belay System night (night)

The Ergo Belay is a lightweight belay device with assisted braking for outdoor and indoor sport climbing.

Its ergonomic and intuitive design ensures that the brake hand remains on the rope at all times, while the responsive assisted blocking function offers an extra level of safety. In addition, it allows the belayer to pay out rope faster and more smoothly, without blocking, and promotes more controlled lowering.

The Ergo Belay works equally well for lead climbing and top roping and is designed for use with single ropes from 8.6 to 11 mm.

Very good for securing light climbers / children

Use it to secure my kids in top rope climbing. Since these weigh only 15 or 25 kilos, it is important that it closes with a low draft and can be loosened again even with a low weight or that it can be dosed very finely, this is the case here. The Click up from Grigri, for example, does not come loose at a weight of only 25 kilos. The belayer then has to pull the rope manually, which is of course a disadvantage for safety.

Very satisfied with takeaway. I think it is a better and safer and more affordable descending device than the grigri. Easy to use and immediately blocks a fall indoors. A small disadvantage: the musketon that is included is on the small side when you are climbing with a thicker rope.

Compared to a normal tube, the Salewa Ergo Belay system has the advantage that it blocks super, as soon as the climber comes train on the device. Also, the draining works comfortably, because the device is well in the hand and so the rope run can be controlled gently with little force. And even when drained, the unit immediately blocks again when you stop dumping it in the draining position. Less convincing than the handling is the processing. Outside of the device it has protruding rivet heads, which do not come into contact with the rope, but which survive too far for my taste and are too sharp in case a rope sticks to it. The price is relatively steep. I would buy the device again. It is comfortable!
