Trail Running Shoes: Profiles for technical terrain
Footwear for trail running should be chosen to suit the terrain and your running speed. Trail running shoes aren't comparable with normal running shoes for the road. The biggest difference lies in the outsole. The more difficult and slippery the terrain will be, the more profiled your shoe needs to be to provide enough grip and safety. This allows you to concentrate fully on your run. If you run on less-difficult terrain and regularly use the road, you should opt for hybrid shoes with a lightly profiled sole. Furthermore, trail running shoes feature a more robust upper material that protects you from sharp objects on the trail, such as branches, stones and thorns, and are at least water-repellent so your feet stay dry.
