Hoke One One Running Shoes for Speed and Comfort

Hoke One One Running Shoes

At the height of the minimalist running shoe movement in 2009, Hoka One One did something completely different – build running shoes with more, rather than less cushioning. Hoka One One’s highly padded running shoes quickly gained popularity in the trail running and road running communities and are now worn by millions of runners around the world.

The Hoka One One Difference

Hoka One One shoes were designed to bring the floating feeling of skiing or pedalling on a bike to running. With that goal in mind, Hoka One One running shoes use a custom-made EVA foam underfoot that’s soft enough to compress when your foot hits the ground. While the shoes may look bulky at first glance, the foam is so lightweight that Hoka One One shoes often weigh less than traditional road and trail running shoes. The result is a shoe that provides momentum when springing off the ground, yet also keeps your foot well protected from rocks and bumps that can otherwise cause pain. In addition, Hoka One One running shoes have less drop from the heel to toe than traditional running shoes, which allows them to feel as if you are running with a minimalist shoe. Best of all, most runners find that the thick cushioning of Hoka One One shoes allows them to last nearly twice as long as standard running shoes.

Hoka One One Trail Running Shoes

Hoka One One’s shoes were originally designed to provide more protection on trails and all of the company’s trail running shoes are still designed with this in mind. All trail running shoes from Hoka One One have very little heel-to-toe drop – less than five millimetres – which simulates the feeling of running barefoot on smooth trails. Depending on the conditions you typically trail run, you’ll need to choose between Hoka One One trail running shoes with mesh or synthetic uppers. Mesh uppers are highly breathable in hot summer conditions, but will also allow water in if you’re running on mud-soaked trails or in the rain. On the other hand, synthetic uppers provide much more protection for your feet from the elements, but can trap in heat and moisture during long, hot runs.

Hoka One One Road Running Shoes

Hoka One One road running shoes are designed to propel you forward while still providing the floating feeling for which Hoka shoes are renowned. Hoka’s road running shoes offer slightly more heel-to-toe drop than the company’s trail running models, while also featuring a meta-rocker geometry that allows them to accentuate the normal transfer of weight from toe to heel while running. The primary difference between Hoka One One road shoe models is the amount and weight of the cushioning. Shoes like the Clifton line are ultra-light, while shoes like Hoka’s Bondi line offer a little bit more weight and momentum under your feet. Hoka One One also has road shoe lines that are specifically designed for over- or under-pronators.
