The trekking poles come with rubber protectors to prevent slipping and reduce noise when hiking on hard surfaces such as rocks or roads. To take advantage of the tungsten tip, the rubber protectors should be removed when hiking on soft ground, such as forest floor, bog, grass or snow, or if additional grip is needed on icy ground. On soft ground, a plate prevents the trekking pole from sinking into the ground.
