Grab your backpack and go - we love being on the road and exploring new places! Our workmate Sabine feels the same. She got her hands on the Bergans Senja backpack for us and tested it extensively in the Tyrolean Alps. We could hardly have found a more suitable tester, because what Sabine doesn't know about most outdoor products isn't worth knowing. She makes sure that all of our sporting goods are displayed online with enough info. When she’s not with us, Sabine's heart beats for the mountains. No matter whether it's hiking, mountaineering or mountain biking, she loves to challenge herself, as well as switching off and enjoying nature. What the outdoor specialist thinks of our June product of the month, she shares here.

First Impressions - What a lightweight

Because of my job I'm focused on outdoor products like backpacks more often than not, and I've seen a lot of them. However, a model that's light, high-quality and also specially adapted to the female anatomy is something I don't see every day. So I was all the more excited about the Bergans Senja, which is supposed to be exactly that. I figured that my two upcoming hikes in the Austrian Kaisergebirge would show what this touring backpack was really made of.
When the backpack landed on my desk, I took a close look at it. Wow, it's light! In fact, it weighs only 980 g - perfect for those who like to travel with as little weight as possible. It seems to have enough storage space: there's a large main compartment, pockets on the left and right for drinking bottles and a mesh pocket at the front. The remaining three zippered pockets provide extra storage space and are found on the top and bottom of the lid and on the hip belt.
The adjustment of the women's carrying system is very easy. Thanks to Bergans’ QuickAdjust™II tech, you can tailor the backpack to your own back length with a Velcro fastener in a flash. Then it sits compactly and flat on the body. It's high time to load the Senja and take it for a hike!

The Practical Test - Off to the mountains!

Thanks to the many compartments, I was able to easily organise my luggage before my day trips. Only in the large, main compartment would I have wished for more subdivision, so I could keep things in better order. The mesh pocket on the front, on the other hand, is extremely practical. I stashed my rain jacket here to have it quickly to hand in case I was surprised by bad weather. For even more space you can expand the bag with a central zipper. The possibility of attaching hiking poles has also been considered!

Even after several hours on my back the touring backpack fits perfectly. It allows great freedom of movement and it's really comfortable to wear. The wide waist belt takes a lot of weight off. For better breathability Bergans has installed their innovative FlowPanel™ on the back. This ensures a pleasant, noticeably airy wearing climate.

Last but not least, I'd like to mention that the backpack is fully bluesign® certified. This means that it's made exclusively from resource-efficient, sustainable materials - a great thing!

Conclusion - Delivers what it promises

I really liked the Bergans Senja. It's a light, great-fitting companion for all day trips. Even those who are on the road a little longer and want to travel with as little weight as possible will be happy with it. As far as organisation is concerned, I would've liked to have had more pockets in the main compartment, but that's all there was to criticise. Backpacks made especially for women (with the right weight, carrying system, workmanship and sustainable production) are a rare thing. Thanks to Bergans, there's now one more model to choose from!
