Most leggings are made of a sealed (PU-coated) fabric in the shoe area, which leads to condensation wetness. Here finally a gaiter, which is so breathing-active, that almost no condensation develops. For me the essential thing is that snow and dirt can not penetrate and that the gaiter also goes over low shoes (trailrunners), so cut down far enough (currently size L fits on a Patagonia GR 46).
