Product description

nortik CityRaft Boat orange/black (orange/black)

The nortik CityRaft has been especially designed for use in urban areas. The focus here is much more on directional stability than on the usually desired agility in running waters.

Many cities invite you to go "city rafting". Just think of Hamburg, Berlin, Venice, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, etc. This includes of coursemany, many smaller cities like Bamberg, Passau, etc. as well. The ingenious system of the (dry) seating position and integrated skeg ensures a relaxed tour through the urban jungle. But the CityRaft can also be used wherever you need directional stability. For example crossing standing waters such as lakes and calm rivers or for fishing.

The possible uses are numerous: Simply take the CityRaft out of your pocket to combine sightseeing with water sport units, comfortably avoid the daily traffic by getting to work on the water, or simply enjoy a few paddle strokes on your city's river or or some other standing water - the CityRaft is the perfect companion.

Great fun
I've been out on this a few times now, on the (non-tidal) Thames, Medway, Rother, and on a large lake. All have been relatively calm waters. Easy to paddle, the string seat is nicer and more comfy than it looks, and because of the trailing skeg it tracks pretty straight. Inflation takes a couple of mins with the included air bag and a few top-up puffs (and a few extra puffs once in the water, because the air cools and shrinks a little). I've taken it on a bus and a train - paddling one way and getting public transport back is a breeze (coupled with a 5 piece paddle and waterproof rucksack containing my gear). I'm 6 ft tall and it fits me perfectly, with room for my bag under my knees. Very buoyant, needs only a few cm of water. Plus points: light weight, easy to inflate and pack away, plenty of spare bits of rubber etc in the included repair kit. Trailing skeg is useful, hooks around the top are useful for running a line. Feels pretty well made and robust (for what I'm using it for anyway). Minus points: My only slight criticism is the length of the rigid skeg limits how small this can be packed. The packing bag is a 60cm by 20cm diameter tube, much like a small two person tent. In the photo on this site, the rigid part is from the far left through to the first left-hand joint. But - once in the water, it's worth it, and fine for what I bought it for (one-way urban pack-raft adventures, returning by public transport, hence 5 stars).
