SUP Boards - for big fun on the water
If you're looking for an alternative sport to cycling, swimming or running, stand-up paddling could be the answer. Gliding over the water with a SUP board and a paddle provides not only a fun whole-body workout, but you can do it all year round, getting you closer to nature. As with surfing, there are not only different SUP disciplines, but also different boards for different requirements. Think of them like surfboards: they vary in length, width and thickness. There are boards for riding waves, all-round boards for exploring, boards for competition and boards for white water. Inflatable boards and boards for children are also available. You're sure to find exactly the right SUP board here at Addnature.

Which SUP Board Size Is Best For You?

When you buy a paddle board, look for one that is stable and floats well enough for your skill level and weight, but still paddles quickly enough to be fun and fits the kind of paddling you want to do.

The most common SUP boards for regular usage are about 10-11 feet long and also 32-34 inches in width. If stability is important to you, you should seek a board that is 33-34 inches wide. You may go wider, but you risk creating a board that is slow and difficult to paddle.

What to Consider When Getting a SUP Board

  • If portability and manoeuvrability are important to you, or if you weigh less than 150 pounds, you should go shorter than normal. Maybe choose a board WITHIN the 9'6" length range. They are really fun and may be very stable if designed properly. Just make sure the width is sufficient for the length, which should be about 30-32 inches. A 9'6" board wider than 32 inches will be difficult to paddle.
  • Consider a 12'6" touring or racing board if speed and straight tracking are important. A touring board with a width of 32 inches is a decent choice. The growing popularity of stand-up paddleboarding tours suggests that a length of 12 feet 6 inches or more will be in high demand. However, some purchasers avoid this length owing to storage difficulties. But if you choose the inflatable model, then the extra length won't be a problem for storage, and a premium inflatable touring SUP should perform well.
  • There are also tailored forms for certain uses. 36-inch boards are widely used for racing rapids, but they are too broad for ordinary paddling since they are sluggish and require you to reach over further to maintain your stroke upright. Surfing in the ocean or on a river is often done on boards that are less than 9 feet long. But the lack of space makes general paddling harder.
  • Additionally, you should be mindful of the superior stability of inflatable boards. Inflatables have a consistent thickness from one side to the other making them far more stable than the comparable-sized hardboards. Hardboards are shaped to minimise weight and improve racing and surfing performance. But then they provide lesser stability as well as buoyancy for leisure paddlers.
  • The thickness of the board is equally as significant as the length, breadth, and outline form. Inflatable SUP boards for all-around paddling, particularly for riders just starting out, should be 5 inches thick.
