Since 1993, a group of friends from Sweden have been working to challenge existing norms in the outdoor industry and actively shape the future of sportswear production. This means clothing exclusively produced using a new circular business model. Houdini is also one of the few women-owned companies in the industry, working on innovations to reduce waste. First and foremost, however, the brand wants to inspire people to foster an intense connection with nature.
Houdini outdoor clothing and sportswear is designed for people who care about the planet and who also want to perform better, experience more and have more fun. Since 1993, Houdini has produced clothing, from underwear to shell garments, that is reliable and that has no negative impact on the planet. On the Addnature.co.uk website, you can choose from a range of products that includes jackets, underwear, sweaters, pants, shorts and warmers for both men and women. You can also find a selection of versatile shirts and t-shirts, as well as caps and hats to keep you warm and toasty. Wherever your adventures may lead you and whatever the elements are doing outside, optimise your experience and look with Houdini.
Houdini was founded in 1993, when Lotta Giornofelice took a life changing skiing and climbing trip. During her trip, she made a ground-breaking discovery, an unknown stretch-fleece fabric. When she realised the potential of this material, she worked together with designers Hanna and Eva Houdini to manufacture functional and reliable sportswear and underwear that quickly became extremely popular with climbers. By the year 2000, they were producing base layers and insulated clothing, as well as clothing that until then, would only be seen as functional but not attractive, such as fleeces.
Houdini is also recognised for its commitment to sustainable production, with many of its products crafted from recyclable fabrics. By 2007 it had introduced its first items made from recycled polyester, with the aim to get its customers out into nature, but without leaving behind any negative impact. In 2008, it was awarded the Sports Outfitters of the Year.
Today, all its garments are made from sustainable fabrics and materials, from left-over pieces of fabric to second-hand sales, down-free insulation garments and recyclable soft-shell layers. “Maximum Experience. Zero Impact” is its mission and can be seen right through to its eco-friendly stores and policies on extending the life of customers’ clothing and by helping customers to fix items that have been damaged.
Not only is it a pioneer in sustainability, but its innovations, such as Airborn SilkMerino, a unique combination of merino wool and silk that results in biodegradable and organic clothing that is exceptionally light, and the launch of its Rental program and Reuse second hand sales has won it recognition including being named as one of the ""100 Innovations"" at Stockholm’s Museum of Technology, winning Swedbank’s Sustainability Award, ISPO Sustainability Award and the Scandinavian Outdoor Award.
