Water filters: indispensable tools for serious adventures
On an expedition through Asia, a bike tour
through the Americas or while mountain climbing in Europe, you’ll always find
water somewhere. However, that doesn’t always mean it’s drinkable. If you have
a way to boil freshwater, do so for at least five minutes before drinking it.
Or, even better and more convenient, bring a water filter to turn brackish
water into drinking water. The most modern, best filters aren’t large and
remove up to 99.9% of all bacteria, viruses, germs, protozoa, particles and
pesticides. Many of them are small and handy and take up hardly any space in
your backpack. The filter elements are made of ceramic, carbon, glass fibre,
plastic or a combination thereof. A pump mechanism sends the drinkable water
through a hose and filter directly to the mouth or drinking vessel.
