Water filters: indispensable tools for serious adventures
On an expedition through Asia, a bike tour through the Americas or while mountain climbing in Europe, you’ll always find water somewhere. However, that doesn’t always mean it’s drinkable. If you have a way to boil freshwater, do so for at least five minutes before drinking it. Or, even better and more convenient, bring a water filter to turn brackish water into drinking water. The most modern, best filters aren’t large and remove up to 99.9% of all bacteria, viruses, germs, protozoa, particles and pesticides. Many of them are small and handy and take up hardly any space in your backpack. The filter elements are made of ceramic, carbon, glass fibre, plastic or a combination thereof. A pump mechanism sends the drinkable water through a hose and filter directly to the mouth or drinking vessel.

Water filters: An absolute necessity for outdoor enthusiasts

Staying hydrated when on an adventure is very important making water filters for camping necessities whenever you are out. These indispensable tools have the power to deliver drinkable water from any murky water you may collect while on your hike. The modern water filters not only remove impurities and hardness but also make your refreshment taste better and have no odour.

At Addnature, a wide range of water filters and spare parts from several renowned brands are available. This use different filtration systems that don't require pumping. Often, the filters will use gravity, squeeze gravity, and reverse osmosis systems. These companies have invested in smaller but equally effective filters that have efficiency rates of up to 99.99%.

Water filters: Product range and spare parts

Addnature offers water filters from nine credible companies and continues to add more to this list. Brands available include Katadyn renown for their tactical series, Platypus revered for their gravity systems, Camelbak, Lifestraw, Grayl, MIZU, MSR, and SteriPEN. There are several spare parts available whenever you need a replacement for your current water filter. Replacement helps to protect pumps and membranes.

Generally, most water filters will need to have their carbon and sediment filters replaced after 6 to 8 months but this differs for different brands. However, if you are not sure when to change your filters, most brands will have a filter change alarm that alerts you.

Carbon filters

These play a crucial role in removing unwanted chemicals such as chlorine and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). They also remove odours and bad taste making your water taste better. When buying a replacement, it is important to check for compatibility. Even so, most brands have replacements available for their products.

Sediment filters

A sediment filter removes dirt, silt and dust from the water. This helps remove cloudiness from water. Nonetheless, this doesn't remove any heavy metals or taste from the water and therefore works best as prefilters. Sediment filters should be replaced lest raw dirt begins to contaminate your drinking water.

Water filter bottles

This is an ideal accessory for any outdoor enthusiast. The bottle contains an advanced filtration system that removes chemicals, bacteria, odour, and improves taste. After refilling the bottle with water from the lake or river, it becomes ready to drink. While some brands have stainless steel bottles, a number have introduced collapsible bottles that are easy to pack in tight spaces.
