Hilleberg Tents for Backpackers and Mountaineers

Hilleberg Tents

Hilleberg tents are at the apex of tent design. This Swedish tentmaker has spent more than 45 years honing the durability, reliability, strength, and weight of its tents. As a result, the company has a devoted following in the backpacking andmountaineering communities, and many of its tents are able to stand up to decadesof use and abuse in the outdoors.

Why Choose a Hilleberg Tent?

Hilleberg tents are the epitome of quality. All the company’s tents are made from extremely lightweight, yet durable Kerlon fabric. Kerlon is designed to be six times more resistant to tearing than traditional ripstop nylon, without adding any weightto your tent. At the same time, Hilleberg tent poles are designed to be as light and compact as possible, but still able to stand up to gale-force winds on a steepmountainside. All of Hilleberg’s tents are hand-made by a single individual – you can even find thename of your tent’s creator sewn into your tent. In the modern world of mass production, that attention to detail is almost unheard of, and it’s one of the factorsthat allows Hilleberg tents to stand out from a crowded field of competitors.Of course, quality materials and craftsmanship don’t come cheaply. Hilleberg tentsare premium shelters designed for backpackers and mountaineers who want to push their limits. The upside to opting for an expensive Hilleberg tent model is that it can last for an entire lifetime of adventures if properly taken care of.

Hilleberg Labelling System

Hilleberg uses a labelling system to divide its tents into four tiers: Black Label, RedLabel, Yellow Label, and Blue Label.

Black Label

Black Label tents are designed for the most extreme conditions on the planet. These shelters are made from ultra-strong Kerlon 1800 fabric and allow you to completely seal off all mesh panelling when strong winds, rain, and snow strike. The slightly heavy Hilleberg Black Label tents are intended for alpinist and determined mountaineers.

Red Label

Red label tents are a lighter alternative to Black Label models, using thinner Kerlon 1200 fabric and smaller poles to cut weight. These tents are ideal for a wide range of activities, from alpinism and mountaineering to providing lightweight shelter for backpackers headed into rough conditions.

Yellow Label

Yellow label tents include most of Hilleberg’s backpacking-specific models. These three-season tents are optimised for light weight and packability. One of thebiggest differences from Red and Black Label options is that these tents are almostuniversally double walled and incorporate uncovered mesh panelling for ventilation.

Blue Label

Hilleberg’s Blue Label is reserved for specialised tent designs. This categoryincludes modular tents and group tents, which are designed to be used on multi-week expeditions.
