Julbo Performance Sunglasses

Julbo Sports Glasses

Julbo is one of the most established eyewear manufacturers in the outdoor industry, with a history dating back all the way to 1888. The company started outmaking glacier goggles for mountaineers in the Alps, and it continues to bring the same dedication to crafting high-performance eyewear today.Whether you’re in need of glacier glasses for a mountain adventure, sportysunglasses for running and hiking, or a more casual set of eyewear, Julbo has the right sunglasses for you.

Julbo’s UV Protection

The number one reason to choose Julbo sunglasses isn’t the company’s frame designs – which are impressive in themselves – but rather the company’s devotion to protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays. Julbo has a history of producing glacier goggles and sunglasses for high-alpine mountaineers, and the company hasbrought the lessons it’s learned in that realm to all of its eyewear.Julbo breaks it’s eyewear down into five categories based on the light transmittance of the lenses:

  • 0 - These lenses allow nearly 100% of available light to pass through to your eyes. You’ll find 0-rated lenses on some of Julbo’s casualsunglasses and in glasses for low-light activities, such as evening bike rides.
  • 1 - These lenses have a slight colour tint to them, but they don’t block much light. 1-rated lenses are designed for evening activities or for low light conditions, such as stormy weather.
  • 2 - This is the lens category that’s most commonly found in Julbo sporty sunglasses and casual frames. It’s perfect for protecting your eyes in average lighting conditions.
  • 3 - Category 3 lenses are noticeably dark. That’s becausethey’re made for bright sunlight with added intensity thanks to water or snow.
  • 4 - These lenses are designed for mountaineers and other athletes who risk eye damage from high levels of UV light. They allow in less than 10% of all available light, so they’re too dark for most everyday sports or weararound town.

Keep in mind that all of Julbo’s lenses, regardless of category, filter out UV A, B, and C rays.

Julbo Reactiv Photochromatic Lenses

With Reactiv photochromatic lenses, your sunglass lenses will actually get lighteror darker to keep the amount of light you’re seeing consistent. This technology isn’t unique to Julbo, but the company’s Reactiv lenses offer a much wider range of shading than competitors’ lenses. For example, Julbo’s lenses can shift between allowing roughly 75% of light through to just 17% when the sun comes out.

Julbo Polarised Lenses

Water and snow athletes will be excited to know that Julbo offers polarised lenses in many of its frames. Polarisation eliminates glare that comes from reflective surfaces, making it harder to see what’s in front of you.Julbo polarised sunglasses are available in specific transmittance categories, or polarisation can be combined with Reactiv photochromatic technology.
