Fast and Comfortable Running with Mizuno Shoes and Apparel

Mizuno

Japanese sports company Mizuno is a behemoth in the world of running shoes. Their running shoes for the road and trail are trusted by professionals and amateurs alike, and the company is constantly striving to improve its running shoes with better technology and more comfortable fitting.

Mizuno Running Shoe Technology

Technological innovation is at the heart of Mizuno’s running shoe line-up. Mizuno is constantly trying out new materials and designs to improve the comfort and speed of the company’s shoes. At the end of the day though, perfect execution for Mizuno means that you’ll be able to forget about the technical features of your shoe and focus on your stride. With that in mind, here are some of the specialised technologies that Mizuno includes in their shoes that sets them apart from competitors:

Wave Plate

Mizuno’s wave plate is the signature component within all the company’s road and trail running shoes. The wave plate extends for the length of each shoe, with a wave-shaped shock absorber sitting beneath your heel. The advantage to this plate is that it distributes the impact of every footfall throughout the shoe, so you can run more comfortably without wearing down your joints and muscles. Note that the wave plate provides stability, so many of Mizuno’s neutral stride running shoes will feel like stability shoes from other manufacturers.

U4ic and AP+

U4ic and AP+ are Mizuno’s custom EVA foam midsole blends. U4ic is found in many of Mizuno’s road running shoes, while AP+ is used in most of Mizuno’s trail running shoes. Compared to other running companies’ EVA foam blends, U4ic and AP+ are firmer – Mizuno wants to retain the energy and bounce in your stride, rather than leave you sinking into the foam with every step. The main difference between U4ic and AP+ is that U4ic is spongier. In practical terms, that means that shoes with U4ic EVA foam will be lighter and softer and Mizuno running shoes with AP+ foam.

XtraRide

Mizuno’s XtraRide feature is a prominent part of the company’s trail running shoes. Essentially, XtraRide is a set of grooves etched into the midfoot portion of the sole that allow the heel and forefoot to move independently of one another. That’s a major advantage on trails, since it allows the shoe to constantly changing foot movements, which translates to more precise landings and more comfortable running.

Gore-Tex

Many of Mizuno’s trail running shoes incorporate Gore-Tex fabric in the upper, which allows them to be both waterproof and highly breathable.

Mizuno Running Clothing

Mizuno also designs and produces the clothing that runners need to perform their best. From shorts and training shirts to midlayer running jackets, Mizuno has a wide variety of apparel that you can take to the roads and trails.
