Climbing harnesses are the foundation of your rope climbing kit. They keep you supported and attached to your ropes, carry all your gear, and have to be as minimal as possible to allow you complete freedom of movement and comfort when you're on the move. Hip-harnesses are the most common, and it's these you will see in climbing halls, the majority of crags, alpine climbing and Via Ferrata. They have individual, adjustable leg loops and an adjustable belt. Hip harnesses will fit most bodies and will have loops reinforced loops for your rope as well as lighter loops that are only suitable for gear. Harnesses have weight limits and need to be regularly checked and replaced when they've worn out.
